BANKING · 2026

Phase 2 in motion.

From senior offsite to a live organisation-wide change programme.

THE SITUATION

Mobilink Microfinance Bank is one of the region's leading digital microfinance institutions. Senior leadership knew the organisation needed to move on AI, but had no structured plan for where to start, how to sequence the investment, or how to bring six cross-functional departments with them.

Running beneath the AI question was a harder structural challenge. Product, Digital Channels, Customer Experience, Compliance, IT, and Project Management were operating with process overload, unclear ownership, and fragmented workflow execution. The capacity AI was meant to free up was being consumed by coordination overhead. The strategy work and the process work had to move together.

WHAT WE DID

01

Phase 1: Strategic offsite with senior leadership

Full-day offsite with the senior leadership team. AI landscape framing, scenario planning for the business, and effort-impact mapping across current operations. Leadership left with a prioritised 12-month AI agenda.

02

Design Thinking Workshop: 30 participants, 6 departments

Two-day immersive Design Thinking workshop with cross-functional teams from Product, Digital Channels, Customer Experience, Compliance, IT, and Project Management. Teams that arrived with visible inter-departmental tension produced shared ownership maps, decision trees, and accountability frameworks by Day 2. The first time these six departments had agreed on a workable process structure.

03

45-day digital programme signed

Following the strategic alignment, a 45-day digital AI programme was scoped for two cohorts: leadership and branch managers. Content built around real Mobilink workflows, not generic AI exercises.

04

Department-track cascade and live adoption dashboard

Department-specific cascade tracks live across the organisation. A live adoption dashboard tracking weekly AI usage by department. Leadership reviews real adoption numbers, not survey estimates, at every leadership meeting.

Phase 2

in motion

Two-day Design Thinking workshop with 30 cross-functional participants from 6 departments. Inter-departmental alignment achieved. 45-day digital programme signed. Adoption dashboard live.

WHAT IT PROVES

The Mobilink engagement proves that AI adoption requires two things to hold together: a strategic direction at the top and the organisational infrastructure to execute it. The Design Thinking workshop broke inter-departmental deadlock that no management meeting had resolved. 30 people from 6 departments left having co-authored the process structure they now follow. The digital programme built the capability. The adoption dashboard made it visible. Phase 2 is in motion because Phase 1 built the conditions for it to be.
